Charmed, I’m Sure: My First-Ever Quilt Pattern!

You know that feeling when something you’ve dreamed about quietly suddenly becomes real? That’s exactly what happened when Moda released my first-ever published quilt pattern: Charmed, I’m Sure. Cue the confetti, the cartwheels, and maybe even a few (happy) tears.

This design is part of Moda’s Summer Charm Series, and it’s built around my absolute favorite precut: the charm pack. I wanted to create something playful, beginner-friendly, and a joy to sew—and I really think Charmed, I’m Sure hits the mark.

A Simple Block with a Big Impact

The entire quilt is built from half square triangles (HSTs), which means it’s perfect for beginners or anyone craving a satisfying, straightforward make. If you’re new to HSTs or just need a refresher, I created a beginner-friendly tutorial video with Jessie from Moda, walking through how to make them. Please use this video if you are new to HSTs, it will show you every step and even how to trim!

The mini quilt version uses just one charm pack and 1 ¼ yards of background fabric, plus 1 ¼ yards for the backing. That’s it. It comes together quickly, and the color play possibilities are endless.

Two Quilts, Two Vibes

I stitched up two samples of Charmed, I’m Sure, and they couldn’t feel more different!

Version 1: Chelsea’s Garden and Moda Bella Solids

This version uses the romantic florals and soft tones of Chelsea’s Garden. I paired it with a crisp white background (Moda Bella Solids – 98) for a fresh, classic look. It feels timeless and just a little bit fancy—like a garden party in quilt form.

Version 2: Animal Animal and Moda Bella Solids

This is where I had some serious fun. I used the wild and whimsical prints from Ruby Star Society’s Animal Animal mashup and set them against a Bella Solids (Primrose-451) background. But I didn’t stop at one block—I made four versions of the mini quilt and stitched them together to create a larger throw-size quilt top. (Spoiler: I loved it so much, I added 5″ borders all around to bring it to a queen-size!)

There’s something magical about how the simple HST-based blocks create big movement and sparkle across the quilt top. It’s bold, it’s happy, and it makes me smile every time I walk by it in the studio.

Come Sew With Me!

Charmed, I’m Sure is part of Moda’s Summer Charm Quilt-Along, and we’re releasing new free charm pack patterns the last weekend of June, July, and August. You can check out the full blog post I wrote for Moda right here.

I hope you’ll grab a charm pack (or two), download the pattern, and join in the fun. And if you make the quilt, please tag me @littlequiltingcloset and use #ModaSummerCharmQAL on social so I can swoon over your stitches!

This pattern may be my first—but it definitely won’t be my last. Thanks for cheering me on, always.
